Enveil's Take: Executive Order on Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence

The Artificial Intelligence Executive Order released by the White House yesterday is an incredibly robust directive aimed at regulating the AI landscape. Enveil CEO Ellison Anne Williams offers her take on why we should all be paying close attention to this milestone relating to Secure AI: 

“We are firmly in the AI era. Driven by data, the impact these technologies have on our lives, businesses, and society at large will only continue to grow. It’s up to us to harness this potential in a way that does not sacrifice our values, which is why it is encouraging to see the decisive action taken by the White House to lead in this arena. 

The Executive Order on Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence specifically highlights — and, more importantly, drives actions — designed to ensure our advances will not outpace our principles. The Executive Order provides a framework for building an AI-powered world where risks are acknowledged, privacy is respected, and security is foundational. This leadership aims to embrace the innovations and accelerate the technology breakthroughs that will help achieve that vision, namely Privacy Enhancing Technologies or PETs. 

A family of technologies uniquely equipped to enable, enhance, and preserve the privacy of data throughout its lifecycle, PETs secure the usage of data and allow users to capitalize on the power of AI while mitigating risks and prioritizing protection. We applaud the Administration’s continued acknowledgement of the power of PETs and its commitment to advance the adoption of these technologies, as well as its recognition of the critical role entrepreneurs and startups play in driving this innovation forward. The Era of AI is upon us — let’s collectively commit to ensuring it’s secure. This action-oriented Executive Order is a step in the right direction.”
